McKinley High School Earns $25,000 STEM Grant for Innovative Science Labs

Exciting news for McKinley High School and the Scajaquada Creek Environmental Science Lab (SCESL)! We recently learned that two projects launched last year—the Mack STEM Lab and SCESL—have earned our school a $25,000 STEM grant!

This funding represents a significant investment in hands-on, inquiry-based STEM learning at McKinley and will help expand opportunities for students to engage in real-world scientific exploration. With this grant, we’ll be able to further develop resources, integrate new technology, and enhance environmental research initiatives that bring science to life for our students.

The Power of STEM in Action

The Mack STEM Lab was created to provide students with access to cutting-edge technology, engineering projects, and coding experiences that prepare them for careers in STEM fields. Meanwhile, SCESL has been a hub for environmental research, particularly in monitoring water quality and ecosystem health in the Scajaquada Creek watershed.

Both projects share a common goal: to empower students with real-world scientific experiences that extend beyond the classroom, equipping them with the skills to tackle today’s environmental and technological challenges.

A Special Thanks to National Gypsum

This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of National Gypsum, whose commitment to STEM education and sustainability has made this grant a reality. Their investment in our students is an investment in the future of innovation and environmental stewardship, and we are incredibly grateful for their partnership.

What’s Next?

With this funding, we are excited to:
✅ Expand hands-on environmental science research through SCESL
✅ Upgrade technology and equipment in the Mack STEM Lab
✅ Provide students with more opportunities for fieldwork, data analysis, and scientific inquiry
✅ Strengthen community partnerships and bring more STEM experiences to McKinley students

This is just the beginning of what’s possible when we invest in STEM education and environmental science. A huge thank you to everyone who has supported these projects, and stay tuned for updates as we continue to grow!
